I’m not happy Daddy

Last night I was putting Faith to bed and started to undress her and she started crying uncontrollably. I had no idea what was wrong, so I stopped what I was doing and asked her what was bothering her. She continued to cry. I tried to calm her down but she continued to cry. This went on right through the rest of me changing her, her brushing her teeth, praying before bed and finally putting her to bed. The whole bedtime routine was socked in her tears.

I gave Faith some hugs and kisses and told her “I love you” and was just about to close the door and she finally stopped crying enough to say “I’m not happy Daddy!” I asked her why and she told me she wasn’t happy because I took her jeans off and she wanted to do it herself.

That’s the reason why she was crying the whole time. I couldn’t believe it.

Here’s the lesson I learned: I need to stop doing everything I am doing when she starts to cry until she is calmed down so she can articulate what she needs to say to me. And to be patient.
