Basketball camp: day 1

What at fantastic day on our first day of basketball at City Centre Church. We did many skills and activities to get the kids understanding the basics of basketball. But no basketballs yet, that will be tomorrow. Don’t worry though, they got to play some scrimmages and at the end of the day they got to shoot around well they waited for the parents to pick them up.

Beside the basketball fun we also were able to help the kids learn about respect and how to not follow the crowd but to stand up for what is right. I shared from Genesis 37 about how Reuben didn’t stand up for what was right because even though he stopped his brother from killing Joseph, he didn’t stand up for his brother and stop them from doing anything wrong to him. And because he didn’t stand up for what was right his Dad (Jacob) had many years of agony and pain of missing his favourite son and thinking he was killed by a wild animal. I then challenged the campers to stand up for someone they know has been picked on at school or in their neighbourhood.

It was great day all in all and very full. Looking forward to tomorrow as we teach the kids someone else about respect.
