Disgusting habits

We have been trying to stop Faith from biting her nails for a while now. Nothing has worked, even the disgusting tasting nail polish is useless, she just eats right through it. Yuck! So we continue to struggle with her to make her understand she shouldn’t bite her nails.
However, I think she is starting to understand why because the other day she came crying to me to tell me her fingers hurt. I could see she had bitten her nails to the point where there was almost no nails on her fingers. I told her the reason her fingers hurt is because she keeps biting her nails.
Here is a funny conversation I had with her just a few days ago:
She was biting her nails again. and I said “Faith stop biting your nails.” She said, “I’m not Daddy. I am picking my nose.” Ugh! Another disgusting habit!
Any parents out there with some advice on how to stop the disgusting habits?

Gloves? (hehe) I’m just a random person that came across this post, buttttt…
My parents got me to stop biting by promising to buy me a much coveted Hello Kitty ring.
And charts work well for my son… for example, if I see him not sucking his thumb then he’d get a magnent sticker on his chart on the fridge, two stickers if I saw him start to suck his thumb and then put it away, if he was caught sucking it meant I took a sticker away. When he got to 30 stickers then he got a big toy we bought at the beginning of the process that was next to the chart. We did this for potty training too. (Here is a link to the chart on our family blog http://rowetheboat.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/pee-pee-in-the-potty-2/) Good luck!
